NPS Media Release – PHARMACISTS – NEED TO CATCH UP ON CPD?

7 SEPTEMBER 2015
PHARMACISTS – NEED TO CATCH UP ON CPD?

As the end of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) year fast approaches, pharmacists are reminded that NPSMedicineWise offers free CPD learning activities for pharmacists.
Participating in NPS MedicineWise’s evidence-based activities assists pharmacists and pharmacy interns in the provision of quality patient care and quality use of medicines in the community.

“For pharmacists needing to earn more CPD credits in the next few weeks, we have a wide range of free activities that offer high quality, trusted and contemporary learning opportunities to support pharmacy practice in Australia,” says Aine Heaney,NPS MedicineWise Client Relations Manager.

“To continue to improve health outcomes for customers, NPS MedicineWise CPD activities help pharmacists stay up-to-date with the latest evidence about what works and then apply that evidence for quality patient care.”

All pharmacists who have not yet completed the 40 credits required to renew their registration prior to 30 September 2015 can participate in these NPS MedicineWise learning products, all of which are accredited as Group 2 activities.

NPS MedicineWise Pharmacy Practice Reviews are unique quality improvement activities that enable pharmacists to earn 16 credits by appraising practice for patients with certain conditions, and comparing with best practice standards and guidelines. Current NPS MedicineWise Pharmacy Practice Reviews cover a range of topics:

*  Asthma management: elements for good control

*  Blood pressure: enhancing adherence, achieving control

*  Medicines in older people: preventing medicines-related problems

*  Oral anticoagulants: promoting safe use

*  Reducing CVD risk

*  Type 2 diabetes: enhancing patient care

Pharmacists can also earn 2 CPD credits by participating in an online case study where a clinical scenario is presented based on an individual patient. Current case studies cover the above topics as well as urinary tract infections, dyspepsia, fatigue and chronic pain.
Online learning courses are also available, including modules on management of infections, blood pressure, medication safety training and adverse event reporting.
